I’m an indie software developer, currently working on three apps. What I love about this work is the freedom it provides — long stretches of deep focus, the ability to set my own schedule, and the opportunity to concentrate on building something meaningful. In addition, I’ve got to know many people from all around the world who enjoy using my apps and get value out of it.
Mp3tag for Windows
Mp3tag is a powerful and easy-to-use tool to edit metadata of audio files.
It supports batch tag-editing of ID3v1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, iTunes MP4, WMA, Vorbis Comments and APE Tags for multiple files at once covering a variety of audio formats. Furthermore, it supports online database lookups from, e.g., Discogs or MusicBrainz, allowing you to automatically gather proper tags and download cover art for your music library. You can rename files based on the tag information, replace characters or words in tags and filenames, import/export tag information, create playlists and more.
I’ve started working on Mp3tag in 1999 and built it mainly for myself in the beginning. Editing metadata of MP3s was painful at that time and changes could often only applied to one file at a time. There was a lot of potential :) Mp3tag was initially written in C but I quickly started learning C++ and released the first beta version on May 24, 2000.
WebsiteMp3tag for Mac
Mp3tag is a powerful and easy-to-use tool to edit metadata of audio files.
Mp3tag is the universal tag editor for Mac. Its main goal is to make simple tasks easy and complex tasks possible. It provides a common interface to the different supported file types, enabling common workflows for mixed-type music libraries. Musicians, DJs, podcasters, and audio-enthusiasts use it for many different aspects of handling audio files.
In early 2017, I started actively thinking about a native version of Mp3tag for Mac. It was only a vague idea and as much as I’ve wanted to have this native version, as far I was away from actually having a usable product. Since then I’ve learned Swift and fell in love with building a version of Mp3tag that’s a great citizen on macOS. And for more than the past 4 years, I’m working almost daily on what is now Mp3tag for Mac.
